About tarkine aCtion victoria (tav)
TAV acknowledges that we meet and work on the land of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. We wish to pay our respects to their Elders - past, present and emerging. We acknowledge that their land was never ceded.
We would also like to respect the role that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people continue to play within the Tarkine,
and indeed Australia, in the effort to protect its natural places and their indigenous heritage,
as well as invaluable knowledge of its ecosystems.

Tarkine Action Victoria (TAV) is a group of like-minded individuals in Victoria campaigning to protect the Tarkine Wilderness.
We are a group of Victorians who are fortunate enough to have visited, and fallen in love with, the incredible Tarkine. We are horrified that short-sighted economic interests may, if left unchallenged, result in the destruction of this globally significant wilderness.
Our primary aim is to spread awareness about the importance of the Tarkine outside of Tasmania, particularly in Victoria. We believe that the Tarkine is crucial both as a haven of biodiversity and as a place for humans to experience the peace and power of wilderness.
We hope to raise the profile of the Tarkine Wilderness on mainland Australia, and to provide a base for those interested in visiting and protecting this magical place.
Our goal is to see the Tarkine protected as a National Park and World Heritage area.
A brief history of our group can be found at the bottom of this page.

Our History
During the summer of 2008/2009, a group of Victorians embarked upon a trip through the Tarkine Wilderness. We hiked from the northern Arthur River right down to the riverside ecotourism village of Corinna, on a trail originally marked by the Tiger Trails group. We fell in love with the amazing forest, and spent many days lying in the sun on the river bend at the base of 'Heaven'.
This was to be the start of our Tarkine action group, although we didn't know it yet.
The following year, we attended a fundraiser where we got into a conversation with Bob Brown. We told Bob about our difficulty in finding an avenue to campaign to protect the Tarkine area that we had fallen in love with, and he gave us the best possible answer: Why don't you do it??
So we did!
Our first concert was held in association with The Wilderness Society out at the beautiful Montsalvat complex. From there, we went on to do many different events in association with numerous other amazing campaigners fighting to protect the Tarkine. Some of these events include fundraising auction dinners, house concerts and many more music fundraisers.
Although we've acted under many different names (Tarkine Beastie and Save the Tarkine Victoria), early 2015 we decided to become a legal entity. That is how we became Tarkine Association Victoria. We have now unincorporated and are called Tarkine Action Victoria.
Since our group was a small seed, we've had many more people join the group to grow it into a tall tree. Although this short history is only a brief summary of how we came to start our campaign, every member has their own story to share…
